weekend to-do list

Just for my own reference.

-Mail tax stuff to Uncle Jim. (this'll get done once the snow stops, but I've got it all done and in the envelope ready to go)
-Finish laundry. Done!!!
-Empty dishwasher and refill. Done!!!
-Wash sweater and socks. Done!!!
-Turn heel of Trekking sock. Done!!!
-Finish cuff of one Rocktober sock. Done!!!
-Start secret project
-Work on Cindy's afghan.
-Take out trash and recycling. Done!!!
-Sort through videos and pull duplicates of stuff I have on dvd to give away or take to work for the patient video library. Done!!!

I think that'll do for now. Should be pretty easy to finish if we get snowed in like we're supposed to. And I might spin a little too....just for kicks and giggles.

And let me point out that besides what's on that list, I've already vacuumed my whole house, and done three loads of laundry (just have to wait for the last load to come out of the dryer).

I'll admit it....

I caved. Miss Violet just makes sock yarns that are too pretty to resist. So a skein of Nasht sock yarn is now mine. I went 53 1/2 days without buying yarn for myself. The counter has now been reset. And may I point out that I work with a bunch of enablers. They were the little devils on my shoulder whispering "Buy it! Buy it! It's only one skein."

So I've decided to give up the yarn diet for Lent. I'll still be following it, but I'm not going to deprive myself if I see something really beautiful.

And the good news from my boss. I'll be going to a conference in Boston with her and 4 other co-workers in early April....in fact, it's the week before I head out to Virginia Beach to visit Sarah. So I'm going to have a lot of traveling under my belt. And the best part....is that my work picks up the bill for the conference!

Is it bad....

.....that I'm kind of mad that there are kids sledding in my front yard and they didn't bother to ask me if they could? I'd have said yes if I was asked, but they didn't. And I'm not talking that they're starting in the neighbor's yard (at least one is the neighbor's kid) and ending up in mine. They are actually walking over to right under my front window and sledding down to the street in my yard. I guess when I was a child, I was raised to ask my neighbor's permission before I went in their yard, and we always had neighbor kids ring the doorbell to ask if they could play on our swingset. Am I wrong to just want to be asked?

Maybe I just need coffee.

Alive!!!

I'm back to Omaha and in one piece too. Waiting until Wednesday turned out to be the best thing. Roads were completely clear the whole way.

Co-worker scarf #2 is almost complete.

Trekking sock #2 is started.

I'm working the whole weekend, but was told by a co-worker that my boss has very good news for me. She also told me what it was, but to act surprised for the boss when she told me. I'll wait until I actually hear from the boss lady before I post it here.

Yay!

Snowed in

Ok, people. I'm stuck in Algona. Tried to drive back to Omaha earlier tonight and it wasn't successful. I followed a snow plow out of town and made it 10 miles down the road before turning around and heading back here. The 10 miles back to town really sucked to drive in. Couldn't see the road at all and started fishtailing all over the place at one point. So it took me about an hour to make a round-trip of 20 miles. Lovely.

Knitting is continuing. I finished my Marble Arches socks at work on Thursday night...actually early Friday morning. Cast on for my second Trekking sock once I was back in Algona on Friday, but didn't make it any further than that. Then I started another Malabrigo scarf for a co-worker while I was getting a pedicure Saturday morning. I've got plenty of stuff to knit while I'm snowed in here, but I'm wishing I had brought my wheel along now. *sigh*

At least I'm safe and not stuck in a ditch somewhere. Keep warm!

consumer stupidity

And not mine for once! But I did make a stupid mistake. Lost finally started airing new shows last night, and I'd programmed the vcr to tape it. Like an idiot, I programmed the time right, but the channel wrong.

I knew that iTunes carried the show, so I went there. They wanted $1.99 to download the show. Right. I was pretty sure that it was being offered free somewhere else.

Sure enough, right on abc.com. There was the show for free. Granted, it didn't get posted there until 8 or so this morning, but I was able to watch it.

My question is this. Why would one place offer it to you for a price when they (and you) know that it can be gotten for free somewhere else?

I have a counter!!!

Lookee!!! *points to the sidebar while excitedly jumping up and down* Thanks to Judith and to coffee. Judith pointed me to the counter, and coffee helped me make a correct guess about where to put the code in my template. So now Minnie won't have to keep up the running tally. *grin*

wiped out

Mom left about 20 minutes ago. The dishwasher is loaded....should start that. I still have to do the laundry that I didn't do on Wednesday....that'll wait for tonight.

But right now, I'm going to sleep. Read a little, then sleep. Sleep is good.

Happy Birthday to me!!

So 26 years ago today, my arrival made my mom miss her knitting group. Yep.....knitting sure is in my blood.

I found some Malabrigo for my co-worker's scarf and got that today, but I'm not counting it since it's not for me and not going in my stash, so I'm at 36 days right now.

Mom's here for the weekend and we spent the morning knitting, running errands, and eating at Panera Bread. Not a bad start to a birthday.

And the Monkey socks over on Mom's blog were one of my birthday presents. Along with a pound of Nutshell coffee (white chocolate and almonds) from a hometown coffeeshop, a pair of knitted wristwarmers, and an oak shelf with coat hooks on it for by my front door.

I'm alive!!

I have recovered from the monster flu. Halleluiah!!!

And for everyone who hasn't heard....

The final Harry Potter book comes out July 21st!!!!!

Just to spark a little debate....what's everyone's take on the Snape issue? Good guy or bad guy? Any other theories? Discuss.
